BENEFITING: NEW ENGLAND CAROUSEL MUSEUM INC
The Bushnell Park Carousel, located in downtown Hartford, is turning 100 years old this year. We are raising funds in order to complete the restoration of this historic carousel, and to celebrate its birthday in style on July 26th, with free rides all day long from 11 am to 9 pm, educational activities, entertainers, and fireworks. With thousands of carousels at the turn-of-the-century, there are now less than 200 antique wooden operating carousels left in this country and Hartford has one of them. They have become an endangered species. The New England Carousel Museum which manages the Bushnell Park Carousel for the City of Hartford has been working to complete the full restoration of the ride for her 100th birthday and also to produce a wonderful, memorable birthday party celebrating this important milestone. The Bushnell Park Carousel. created by Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein in 1914, has 48 horses (36 jumpers and 12 standers), two chariots and a Wurlitzer 153 band organ. We are almost finished! We have 6 more horses that need adopting to complete our work. Please make a donation to help us complete the restoration of the horses. We are close, but need your help to take it over the top. We need $27,700.00 to restore 6 more horses and we need $5,000 to help pay for the 100th Birthday Party.
