BENEFITING: PEOPLES MUSIC SCHOOL INC
As you may know, I have engaged in a life-long pursuit of learning and playing the piano. I have played music with orchestras, rock bands, and as a soloist throughout my entire life. In recent years, I have had the privilege of serving as a board member of The People’s Music School, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing music educating to children at no cost.
Now in its 40th year, TPMS delivers multi-year music education, completely free, to hundreds of disadvantaged students across Chicago. Providing rigorous and immersive programs, the school changes the lives of the kids that participate, helping them achieve goals that would have otherwise appeared unattainable -- whether it's gaining admission into some of the top high schools in Chicago or playing on stage at Symphony Center, the TPMS students are broadening their ideas of what their futures can be.
Seeing these kids has served as a reminder for how fortunate I was to have had access to music and what an amazing gift it is to make it, and all the benefits music offers, available for free. Music has instilled in me so much more than the ability to play the piano - it's given me a foundation of responsibility, self-esteem and discipline that has proved invaluable in all parts of my life.
Doesn't everyone deserve access to such a special gift? TPMS makes that dream of open access, regardless of financial situation, a reality like no other organization in the United States.
Please consider this appeal to make a donation to The People’s Music School for an upcoming fundraiser I am participating in on May 6th.
Any funds we raise will be matched by two generous donors, meaning anything you contribute will have three times the impact - what an exciting opportunity to maximize our giving!
I would be honored to have you attend our concert on May 6th, 2016 where I will perform the first movement of a Beethoven Piano Trio with Debbie Lee (violinist), and Michael Buck (cellist and fellow TPMS Board member). Also on the program are several other TPMS students and affiliates.
Please RSVP here – family and friends are welcome! In addition, please plan to attend and RSVP for the post-concert reception. This will be your opportunity to tell me about all the notes I missed!
Thank you so much for your support!
Please note when making a donation, Crowdrise will require a donation or processing fee. Donors can reduce the donation amount to Crowdwise to zero at their discretion before processing their donation. However, a convenience fee will still be charged. To make a direct donation to the school, please send a check made to The People's Music School to 931 West Eastwood, Chicago, IL 60640 and reference this event.
