“The most important thing a girl wears is her confidence.” My name is Jansikwe Medina-Tayac, I am 12 years old, and I am a camper at Camp Little Notch. I am writing to you because I am trying to raise money to save my camp that gave me my confidence.
Camp little notch is a beautiful camp nestled in the Adirondacks where there are mountains to challenge my limits, a crystal clear lake full of life that makes me feel like I am one with the earth, and forests where I can grow with the trees and the wildlife.
But the most beautiful part of Camp Little Notch is that it teaches girls to be strong, independent, and to be themselves because a girl’s most important opinion when making a decision is hers. I have a friend that I met at camp that has a hard life at home, but at camp she could be herself, started expressing her feeling through poetry instead of hurting herself, and made new friends. I am still in contact with her now and she continues to find her way through writing.
At camp the people there make me feel like my ideas and my actions are important, like I am important. They encourage me to be myself and to inspire other people. They taught me that if I work hard, I can accomplish anything. I have learned to accept people for who they are, and that sometimes it is our differences that bring us together, over the three years that I have gone to this camp, I have realized how much I have gained from this amazing experience.
My camp will have to close if we can’t raise enough money to buy the land. You might think this camp is like all the other camps, but I know that any girl that goes to Camp Little Notch will walk out with confidence that will last a lifetime. If you believe in helping girls become strong and confident, please donate. Any amount is helpful, Thank you!
