Please Help Us Save Camp Little Notch
CLN needs all hands on deck. There is a January 9 deadline to buy the camp, or it will be lost forever.
Little Notch has been an important part of my family since the summer of 1984 when I worked there as a counselor. While I was there, my Great Aunt Mabel died of pancreatic cancer. I woke up in the middle of the night, in my sleeping bag on a cot in the platform tent, and knew she had passed. The staff and the campers helped me deal with that loss, but most of all being in the woods helped. Watching things grow, floating in a canoe, testing myself swimming across the lake, watching the stars light up the night sky ... all these and more helped me cope with not having been able to go to see her to say goodbye.
Fast forward a few years. I moved to Michigan and back. My older daughter became a Girl Scout, and starting at age 9 spent part of every summer there until she was 16 and the Girl Scout council sold the property. The last year it was a GS camp, my younger daughter also went. When they found out Council had sold it, they both cried.
It remained closed for a few years. Then, Friends of Camp Little Notch started the process of purchasing it. They reopened it, and my older one went back, this time as a counselor herself. And my younger daughter went as a camper again. Just two months earlier, her father had suddenly and unexpectedly died. For her, Little Notch became a sanctuary. It is one place where there are only happy memories. She calls it her "happy place." When she relives the trauma of her father's death, she reaches out to her memories of Camp Little Notch, and she talks about going back when summer comes again. It is one of the things that helps her get through. It HAS to stay open, she says.
If we can't raise the money, thoug, that "happy place," Camp Little Notch, will disappear for her and for all the other girls it can help to grow into beautiful, strong young women.
Please, consider making a donation to the camp.

Camp Little Notch (CLN) is a magical forest located at the base of the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Situated on 2,300 acres of pristine wilderness, including an 80-acre private lake and historic iron ore furnace. CLN provides the perfect setting for outdoor adventure, personal growth, new friendships, and community building.
From 1939 to 2008—the Girl Scouts owned and operated CLN as a summer camp for girls. In 2008, the Girl Scout Council decided to close CLN and sell the property. Upon learning of the impending sale, an energetic group of former campers and staff—who believed CLN could and should reopen—formed Friends of Camp Little Notch (Friends of CLN), the non-profit organization that reopened CLN for summer program in 2012. Friends of CLN has successfully conserved the property through a relationship with the Open Space Institute (OSI) and but needs your support to complete the purchase and keep Little Notch open for generations to come!
