Established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013, Brotherhood Without Borders (BWB) aims to provide an international perspective to young men of African descent. In the effort that cross-cultural experiences can develop exemplary role models ready to make a positive change for our community. Our organization seeks to support this initiative by:
• Organize workshops in order to build upon determination, persistence, and team building skills for students and faculty
• Provide medical outreach to youth of impoverished communities through local and international service projects
• Inspire youth to be accountable for their education by providing them resources necessary to further their personal development
• Initiate intercultural dialogue among students and faculty on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus in order to facilitate the practices of social justice and social change
In May 2014, BWB plans to travel to Haiti House of Hope (3H), a Haitian orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for 10 days. The goal of this project empower the Haitian youth (ages 7-18) toward building successful lives within their nation. This project is built in connection to the Wisconsin Association of Black Men, a registered student organization at UW-Madison. We hope to establish relationships with the children and community leaders in order to share our experiences and ultimately learn more about Haitian culture. During this trip, “Brotherhood Without Borders” will perform medical outreach by teaching the Haitian youth about personal hygiene, fitness and nutrition, work together to create a soccer field for 3H, and assist in the rebuilding efforts from the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake in 2010.
Currently, we are working with key stakeholders in the Madison community and the UW-Madison campus to support this initiative. BWB believes this is a mission that can be achieved when we all work together. Furthermore, this will add to a more meaningful experience that we hope outlast our time at UW-Madison. All donations are greatly appreciated! The amount of money donated is of no importance in comparison to the thought of your contribution to help Haitian youth and our mission to succeed. Thank you!
