Founded two decades ago, the Beginning with Children Foundation has educated over 1,500 Brooklyn children in grades K-8. Our schools offer an innovative and rigorous curriculum and emphasize social and emotional development of the whole child. We support our K-8 "graduates" in their high school and college years with a comprehensive academic and career oriented Alumni Program.
90% of our Alumni graduate high school in four years, versus 66% for New York City. All of our Alumni are accepted to 2 and 4-year colleges, and typically receive half a million dollars in scholarship funding. Our Alumni Program includes academic tutoring, Regents and SAT Prep, college application support, campus visits, career panels, job shadowing opportunities and corporate mentoring programs.
A hallmark of the Alumni Program is our summer internship program. After a rigorous training course, BwCF places students at summer jobs with local non-profits and corporations. Students are exposed to fields of interest, to the norms of the professional world, and have the opportunity to develop greater independence and personal accountability.
