EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
21 years ago I stood in Hopkinton at the start of the 100th Boston Marathon, encouraged and supported by my brother who had helped me secure a charity number. It was my first marathon, and though I was intimidated and nervous, knowing that my brother was among the thousands running with me that day bolstered my confidence (and competitiveness) and kept me going up the hills and through the toughest miles.
On April 17th, 2017, thousands of runners will gather in Hopkinton at the starting line of the 121st Boston Marathon, and I am proud to be among them as part of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Stepping Strong Marathon Team. I am especially honored to have the opportunity to raise funds specifically for the AJ Trustey Epilepsy Research Fund at Brigham and Women's Hospital. After AJ's death on October 13th, 2014, my brother committed himself to doing absolutely everything he could to raise money to support epilepsy research and find a cure. The entire Trustey family worked diligently to bring about a greater understanding of epilepsy, and my niece Anna developed an awareness campaign that she planned to launch at Brooks School as her senior project. Sadly, Joe and Anna's efforts were cut short when they passed away in July of 2015.
Continuing AJ, Joe and Anna's legacy is of paramount importance to me, and running the Boston Marathon to raise money for innovative epilepsy research at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where AJ received treatment, is a small way I can honor their lives and continue the work that was so important to them. Thank you in advance for your donation - any amount makes a difference, and is sincerely appreciated.
With love and gratitude,
