BENEFITING: EVERY VOICE ENGAGED FOUNDATION
I am working on an incredible new project for The Every Voice Engaged Foundation. Many of you know that I run sales for Conteneo, a serious, collaborative game company. Well, I also work with our sister organization; a non-profit called the Every Voice Engaged Foundation where we are building a network of corporate sponsors, foundations and individuals to engage all voices in building a sustainable water policy for our state.
Why is this so important? Well, its a big problem worth solving. CA supplies over half of all the fruits and vegetables to the rest of the United States, 80% of the worlds almonds are grown here, and all of us simply need water.
It is especially interesting to me from a technology perspective because we are going to be using a new online platform called Common Ground for Action that Conteneo built in partnership with the Kettering Foundation. (see the Video I uploaded if you want to see the way Kettering explains its power)
This platform and our engagement process will bring together people from all over the state to collaborate online about possible solutions to the drought and to build a picture (and data for data geeks to pour over) of where common ground exists. The reality is that no matter where we live in the state or what our political beliefs may be, we all suffer from the lack of water and we all have a lot more in common than we can easily communicate to policy makers. This project will enable all of us to see and define common ground - through collaborative online forums. Common Ground for Action will help us all participate in building a solution to the drought in a way that is fun, engaging and powerful. Its not really a stretch to see how this whole engagement system could be applied to all kinds of intractable problems.
The first step to our pilot is to work with CA water experts to develop a comprehensive water issue guide which will be shared with citizens and loaded into the platform. It will become the basis for collaboration and for the identification of common ground. Getting it right is key. So while many of our water partners will be donating expertise, we cannot complete this step without some investment. Help us get this critical step completed!
