On May 5-6, I will be running 194 miles through 36 cities and across the Golden Gate Bridge on team "Cag Free Dozen" with 11 friends during the largest event in the world promoting organ donation. During The Relay, known as California's Longest Party, passing the baton to my next team member will symbolize the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient.
Our Team, Cage Free Dozen is celebrating its 4th year of existence! This year we've managed to recruit some old faces, new faces, friends of friends from the NorthWest...you know who you are!
On a more serious note and the purpose of why we're doing what we're doing, the relay is the passing of the baton (really wrist band) from one team member to the next; It symbolizes the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient. The Relay has been dedicated to transplant recipients, candidates, organ donors and donor families participating as runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators. This year is dedicated to Katie Grace Groebner (born 7/16/02 - 9 years old) who needs a new heart and lungs. Please take some time to read Katie's story.
We thank you for supporting us in this crazy adventure both in your loving words and in donating to this wonderful cause! You can follow us throughout the race at our twitter account: @cage_free_dozen.
