Cage Free Dozen is celebrating its 4th year of existence!
The other Friday actually, The Relay coordinator called and I immediately thought I was in trouble because I've in the past been pretty good about procrastinating in sending the registration money on time. But this year no, I was on top of it. The coordinator actually called to let me know that I had sent my money well in advance, but that I had forgotten to register my team online. Doh!
He then went on to share that for the first time this year, a free range chicken farm is putting together a team of runners and really loved our name. So there you have it, we have 12 really angry farmers coveting our team name and will be on the lookout for us race day(s)...well I can see why when you have a brilliantly named team of runners that have nothing to do with cage free chickens, eggs or anything of the like...Yikes!
On the note of runners, this year I've managed to recruit some old faces, new faces, friends of friends from the NorthWest...you know who you are!
It's been great...every year seems to get easier and easier. Either I'm getting better at marketing the event -- running for 2 days, 194 miles through 36 cities and across the Golden Gate Bridge with little to no sleep in a van with 5 stinky runners but nevertheless, friendly faces with amazing life stories to tell...or I'm targeting the right people! Maybe it's a combination of both.
On a more serious note and the purpose of why we're doing what we're doing, the relay is the passing of the baton (really wrist band) from one team member to the next; It symbolizes the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient. The Relay has been dedicated to transplant recipients, candidates, organ donors and donor families participating as runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators. This year is dedicated to Katie Grace Groebner (born 7/16/02 - 9 years old) who needs a new heart and lungs. Please take some time to read Katie's story.
We thank you for supporting us in this crazy adventure both in your loving words and in donating to this wonderful cause! You can follow us throughout the race at our twitter account: @cage_free_dozen.
