Hello, world. So who am I, anyway?
Well, I'm a DC native who has consistently failed to reach life beyond the beltway. So this year, I'm doing that.
I'm also a nineteen-year-old college student, on a gap year from school. I felt that it did not give me the opportunity to reach communities and get a sense of how life is lived on the frontlines of today's most pressing issues. And, mosr importantly, how to meet, on a level ground, people who are not white, educated, middle-class, and vaguely progressive.
The most important thing in the world is to get people TALKING. That's how they see that they are not so different, that their diffeences are beautiful, and that they are stronger together than they are alone.
Your donation will facilitate my footsteps. Step by step, crossing the country, seeing it in real time, not train-time or bus-time, or airplane-time. Not skipping over communities the tour books don't advertise. Not snapping pictures or buying souvenirs. Step by gritty step, understanding the country I was born in.
