Caitlin's delegation to Mexico
Organized by: Caitlin Lopata
I will be traveling to Queretaro, Mexico for 4 weeks. During that time, I will stay with a host family to see their daily life before moving to a "village." The village will have four, 11-year old kids from 11 different countries: Brazil, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Phillippines, and USA. While in the "village" (usually a school or camp facility), we will focus on learning to communicate across language barriers, learn how to prevent and resolve conflict, and find out about different cultures.
I have always been interested in ways to solve problems without violence. My mom says when I was little, I wanted to solve every problem with a hug even when a kid in my preschool kicked me. When I grow up, I would like to be a doctor or a judge because I want to help people.
For the last year, I have been saving all of my allowance, birthday gifts, and holiday presents to help pay for my trip. I already saved $443 and plan to ask my neighbors if I can do chores to save more. I also want to do a lemonade stand this summer, but I still need more help.
