Sandy Miguel via Crowdrise
February 17, 2012
EVENT DATE: Mar 02, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 4
I am in no way affiliated with any charities here in the Philippines... well, not yet. This is my first venture into volunteerism.
I started this project because if I don't, I'm not sure if someone else will-- I meant here on Crowdrise.
I'm not much of an activist or anything, but recent news headlines have gotten to me and has led me to do this. Everytime I watch the news, it seems that disasters are happening to some parts of my country, one after the other. While people were still recovering from the damage typhoon Ondoy (2009) had done, the country was hit hard again with another big one, Sendong (international name: Washi). Sendong struck Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan (in the Luzon region) last December.
Just yesterday (2/16/2012), disaster-hit Mindanao was hit again by heavy rains which had caused the Lapayan river to overflow. A lot of people have lost their homes and loved ones because of this.
It's really heartbreaking and it bothered me so much that I can't do anything to help those people in need. But not anymore.

Updates 2/16/2012: Have sent an email to Crowdrise for advise on choosing the charity that will benefit this project. For now, it's going to be Red Cross Philippines.

Update as of 2/17/2012:
I decided not to choose the charities available here on Crowdrise, but perhaps will do so for my next projects. I'll go with Red Cross Philippines for this one.
Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info about me or this fundraising project that I'm setting up here.
