We’re best friends, running mates, and two people who believe that young people can change the world. With the support of Lauren and the world’s best family and friends, Cal founded Project 351, a statewide non-profit that builds the ethic of service and invests in extraordinary young leaders like Genesis, Ryan, Princell, Hailey, and Noor –members of our third Class of 8th grade Ambassadors.
They, and more than 350 others, are selected by every city and town in the Commonwealth for their example of service and for exemplifying kindness, compassion, and humility. For one year, they unite to serve their communities, build leadership skills, develop empathy and confidence, and build a stronger Commonwealth through friendships that span geography and background.
Launched at Governor Patrick’s second inaugural, Project 351 celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision that an individual’s “greatness” is only realized in service to one another. As we run the 26.2 miles in April, Ambassadors will be leading one of our signature projects for Cradles to Crayons. By mobilizing thousands of youth in their communities, they’ll impact more than 10,000 children in poverty. And, as they serve, Ambassadors will build values and life skills that transform their sense of what is possible.
We all remember 8thgrade. It’s a year of searching –for yourself and for what comes next. These 8th graders – from extraordinarily diverse backgrounds– help define what is next. A better world, a more united Commonwealth, and a generation committed to service and compassion.
In three years with an all-but-one volunteer staff, Project 351 has engaged close to 1200 Ambassadors and impacted thousands through our service and curriculum. The Marathon is our first appeal for support and we would be most grateful for your investment in the young people we’re privileged to serve and in the communities they strive to build.
