Typoon Haiyan Relief in the Philippines
We've raised $8,960 so far! See photos of this year's tutoring session here
As the Calculus students of South Pasadena High School in Southern California, we aim to do more than just raise our grades by raising money for charities across the world. This year, we're hosting a tutoring fundraiser, as well as this online fundraiser, to raise money for Architecture for Humanity to help restore the infrastructure in the Phillippines after Typhoon Haiyan. Every year, we hold a tutoring event to prepare students at our school for their math finals. By charging students $20 for a review packet and one-on-one tutoring from the AP Calculus BC students, we both prepare students to succeed on their tests and raise money for a designated charity.
Over the past five years, we've managed to bring in nearly $25,000 for various charities.
2013: $8,400 towards Door of Hope, an organization that helps helps transition families and individuals from homelessness to permanent housing
2012: $4,000 towards Union Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in downtown LA's Skid Row
2011: $5,000 towards Union Station Homeless Services, a local homeless shelter in Pasadena, CA
2010: $4,800 towards Doctors without Borders work in Haiti after the catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake
2009: $2,200 towards the Salvation Army to help with recovery after the California fires of 2008
