SPHS Calculus students, in conjunction with the Math Department, will be holding a fundraiser on Tuesday, January 12, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to help students prepare for their math final exams and to raise funds for the Nepal earthquake relief efforts of the Los Altos Rotary Club. Registration for students is $20 in cash or check on the day of the fundraiser and begins at 2:45. Tutoring is available in subjects ranging from Math 1 to Calculus BC, and students are encouraged to bring money to purchase snacks, which will support the Math Club. The Rotary Club has generously offered a matching grant of $5,000 to $7,000, so your donation will do twice the good.
Over the past seven years, we've managed to bring in nearly $46,000 for various charities:
2015 Fall:$7,230 towards Doctors Without Borders to fight Ebola in West Africa.
2015 Spring: $3,800 towards Principal's fund for students with financial needs at SPHS/Math Club.
2014: $9,000 towards Architecture for Humanity, an organization that helps to rebuild homes for the Philippine refugees affected by Typhoon Haiyan
$3,000 towards the South Pasadena High School Tigers Marching Band
$1,500 towards Pennies for Patient, an organization that supports the leukemia/lymphoma society
2013: $8,400 towards Door of Hope, an organization that helps transition families and individuals from homelessness to permanent housing
2012: $4,000 towards Union Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in downtown LA's Skid Row
2011: $5,000 towards Union Station Homeless Services, a local homeless shelter in Pasadena, CA
2010: $4,800 towards Doctors without Borders work in Haiti after the catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake
2009: $2,200 towards the Salvation Army to help with recovery after the California fires of 2008
