RADIO HISTORY EDUCATION

For the Restoration and Preservation of Early Radio and Radio Broadcasting

VINTAGE RADIO MUSEUM & RADIO HALL OF FAME SEEK FUNDING FOR PERMANENT HOME

HELP CHRS PURCHASE ‘RADIO CENTRAL’ IN ALAMEDA, CA

The California Historical Radio Society is an Educational Nonprofit group formed in California in 1974

For the Restoration and Preservation of Early Radio and Radio Broadcasting

CHRS, an Educational 501(c)(3) organization, has created and operated a unique West Coast Educational Center for Radio and Radio History at the old KRE radio station building in Berkeley, CA for the last 10 years. Due to the tireless efforts of passionate volunteers this derelict building was turned into a showplace. The new owners of this property have asked CHRS to vacate. CHRS realizes the importance of a permanent location, so we have been raising money to purchase a new home. We are seeking a total of $1.15 Million. We have already raised over $750,000, and we have an additional $400,000 to raise in a very short time.

We are currently in escrow for the purchase of 2152 Central Avenue in historic Alameda, CA. This vintage building will become the permanent home for our New Educational Center devoted to Radio. It is 3000 sq. ft. larger than KRE. We are seeking public and private donations to complete our fund raising for the building purchase and to begin improvements on the New CHRS ‘Radio Central’. Naming rights for this building are possible for a $500K donation. But, every donation is most appreciated!

We realize how much radio has been a part of our lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and are dedicated in our efforts to preserve its’ history. CHRS is the only group in the West that offers these many programs and diverse activities that celebrate radio and broadcasting history.

CHRS’ facilities, programs and activities include:

Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame
James Maxwell Communications Library
CHRS Radioana Archive
Archives of the Society of Wireless Pioneers

We see Radio as transformational to 20th century society and culture as the Internet has been to the 21st, and we have a passion to tell its story. CHRS is ready to grow to the next level, so as to fully expand our vision as a world-class Educational Center devoted to Radio and Radio history. So, we need your help. Our needs are urgent! Escrow closes April 14, 2014 and we must be fully funded by then.
