WHAT IS THE 2015 EAST-TO-WEST SCAVENGER RACE?
The East-to-West Scavenger Race is a bike race across Santa Cruz where teams of 2-4 people will complete mental and physical challenges for their chance to win incredible travel/adventure prizes (SEE PRIZES) for their entire team in Santa Cruz, Nicaragua, Baja, and Costa Rica. Biking from challenge to challenge - anything from paddling, climbing, ping pong, trivia, art projects, and skating with the Derby Girls will be on the race challenge list! This family friendly event will have more challenges than your team can complete, making it possible to pick and choose from your favorites. All proceeds from the Scavenger Race will support The Raechel & Jackie Foundation (RJF), a non-profit that was founded after two local sisters, Raechel and Jaqueline Houck. Participation is limited so register your team early to ensure you get a spot - last day to register is Sept. 9th.
When: On Sept. 13th / check-in from 1pm-2pm / race from 2pm-5:30pm / post race celebration (music, entertainment, food, beer, prizes and raffle) is free and open to the public from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
Where: The race starts at Abbott Square, Museum of Art & History (705 Front Street). Post race celebration will be held in the Atrium, Museum of Art & History.
WHAT IS THE RAECHEL & JACKIE FOUNDATION (RJF)?
RJF is a non-profit here in Santa Cruz that operates with a mission to improve access, quality, and relevance of education for youth in Central America (EIN # 46-3546942). Please visit http://www.raecheljackiefoundation.org to learn more.
The Foundation was started in memory of two local adventurous and talented sisters, Raechel and Jaqueline Houck. They were impassioned about the world, creativity and children. Although they passed on, their spirit and love for adventure continues to inspire the work of the Foundation, which carries their name.

When was the last time you got to bike around town and play ping pong, paddle, acroyoga, roller-skate, learn new things about Santa Cruz and do aerial acrobatics all in one day?
When was the last time you were able to forget your responsibilities while laughing for hours on end with your friends?
When was the last time you supported a local non-profit while having the chance to win a one-week travel adventure with your friends?
So why not take some of your best friends, colleagues or family members, hop on some bikes and join us for an afternoon of fun while being challenged to complete some of the best adventure activities in Santa Cruz.
CAN I PURCHASE RAFFLE TICKETS TO WIN A TRAVEL ADVENTURE IF I AM NOT ENTERING THE SCAVENGER RACE?
Yes! Regardless of where you are located and whether or not you are participating in the Scavenger Race you can purchase raffle tickets to be entered into the travel/adventure raffle which will include the prizes that are not chosen by the three winning teams. Raffle prizes will be announced at the end of the Scavenger Race and you do not need to be present to win. You can purchase raffle tickets at the "Purchase Raffle Ticket" buttons provided on this event website.

NOW THAT I'VE DECIDED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RACE, HOW DO I REGISTER?
You need a team (with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4 people), a team photo and a team name. Get creative!
There are two registration options:
A) "All Inclusive" registration for $60/person which includes:
- Entry into the Scavenger Race
- Automatic entry, for each team member, into the travel/adventure raffle which means even if you are not one of the top 3 winning teams you will still have a chance to win an adventure
- A beer (if you are 21 or over) at the end of the race
- A healthy and delicious dinner from Joshua at Conscious Creations
- An event hat to remember your victory
B) "Race Only" registration for $30

WHEN IS THE RACE?
On Sept. 13th, gather your teammates, get on a bike and meet us at Abbott Square at the Museum of Art History (705 Front Street) in Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon from 1pm-2pm for check-in. We will hand out challenge packets and go over the race rules. You'll head out with your team at 2pm to do the Scavenger Race and collect as many points as you can in 3.5 hours - documenting and sharing your progress with photos as you go.
The race will end at 5:30pm at The Museum of Art & History (MAH) for the post race celebration from 5:30pm-7:30pm to hear team prizes, eat some grub from Conscious Creations, drink good beer from Discretion Brewing and Lagunitas Brewing Company, listen to Santa Cruz Reggae All Stars and watch Aerial Arts Santa Cruz perform. Once you register you will receive an email with additional details about the event.

HOW AND WHAT CAN I WIN?
The top scoring three teams will be announced during the end festivities. In order of scoring, each of the three winning teams will have the opportunity to pick their preferred travel adventure prize for their team of 2-4 people.They will include team adventures in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Santa Cruz County.
The remaining adventure prizes that are not chosen by the top three winning teams will be raffled off at the post-race celebration. Each team will also have the chance to win creative category prizes for best team costume, best team logo and best team photo.
To be entered into the 'best team costume' category, have all team members come dressed in your favorite team themed costume - just make sure it won't slow you down on a bike.
Teams can get a head start before the day of the race by getting their team sponsored, donating, or fundraising. Teams will receive 1 point for each $50 their team raises. Folks can donate or sponsor a team by visiting the event website, click 'Donate' and select the team you wish to sponsor.
