Homeless Youth Outreach
Organized by: Rebecca Powell
THE STORY:
There are thousands of youth traveling the country- by thumb and by rail. For three years we have networked to build a coalition of couches with families across the country and we take to the streets with the Call Your Mom project, reconnecting kids with their parents and inviting their Moms and Dads to our parent support network. We have hundreds of couches and showers across the country and can do so much more with a website. This site will be mobile friendly and provide instant resources and support to any kid in need and a bus for missions. We provide first aide and food as well as care packages and hotels for sick kids or kids trapped in threatening weather conditions.
We need our own site- an interactive page where the kids can meet and find resources. They can also find couches and sponsors. We now have online sponsors for kids seeking recovery, as well. Our site will be www.Dkcsc.org and I have a talented team who will design it and get everything we need on it. There are some very important aspects to this website that have to be part of it. I have a network of couches (over 300 so far) and we need those easily accessible and interactive. If a kid is in OKC, for instance- I want them to be able to plug that in and have all the resources in the area plus our couches pop up. I want a live chat room
Where they can stay in touch. And Call Your Mom will benefit as well by connecting the volunteers that meet with the kids as well as being able to take online requests. We have the chance to reunite more families than ever.
These kids are too often targets for predators who seek out young hitch hikers. We have lost too many kids this year- kids we loved, kids who were makings a difference .. Deaths we could have prevented if we could really be there when they need us. These kids crave freedom, adventure and independence and we want to help in any way we can.
