The New York City Marathon covers 26 miles… more than 45,000 yards – a number that will inspire me every step of the way.
Because I am running to support CAMBA, a very special Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization.
CAMBA serves 45,000 New Yorkers in need each year – so every stride will make a difference in another person’s life!
Started in 1977, CAMBA offers a holistic approach to helping people in need. With more than 150 programs, it addresses emergency needs like food, shelter and long-term assistance such as adult literacy, permanent housing, job training and preparation, legal services, credit repair, and so many more. Whatever it takes to help and individuals or families get back on their feet and to thrive – CAMBA is there.
Every dollar I raise helps CAMBA’s amazing work in six areas: economic development, education and youth development, family support, health, housing and legal services. For $1 per mile, CAMBA can provide a week’s worth of groceries for a hungry family at our food pantry. Ten dollars a mile can buy a whole summer of fun and enrichment for a child with nowhere else to go. And with $100 a mile, CAMBA can prevent a family from losing their home to foreclosure!
Every day that I’m training (and going to work!) I feel good knowing that this run will help CAMBA make our neighbors and our community better. If you want to learn more about CAMBA’s transformative work, go to CAMBA.org.
Thanks for your encouragement and support. I hope you will consider joining Team CAMBA.
