In the Cameron House community, you often hear people say "I grew up at Cameron House." Well that's not just a thing of the past. Our kids are still growing up at Cameron House today, and that phrase isn't just about the amount of time they spend here as youth. It's about the lessons they have learned, the role models they have followed, and the community that has nurtured them.
Last week was our annual Westminster Woods retreat, a week long residential camp lead mostly by our volunteer young adults for 80+ middle school and high school youth. It was one of those fantastic weeks where everyone seems to be having a great time, energy levels are high, and complaining is low (a feat to be sure with 80 kids, even in the most exciting of environments). At our camp closing, we allow time for 'open mic', where anyone can share whatever it is they would like. I watched person after person get up to share how much Cameron House means to them and how the people at Cameron House have impacted their lives. They spoke about their Club leaders, their peers, their new friends, and how they feel like they are a part of a loving community. I cried through the majority of it, watching youth I've known for years, and some I've just met, talk about the life changing experience of feeling you are apart of something, and I feel so proud to be a part of that too.
This was my last West in this capacity. This fall I will be moving to the position of Volunteer and Special Events Manager at Cameron House. I'm excited to take on this challenge and serve the youth and families at CH in a new way as a part of the Development Team. It will be hard to not be working with the youth everyday, but the work that the Development Team does is essential to the success of our programs as well.
So here it is, the Development side of the magic at Cameron House, where we need your support to continue to create space for youth and families to grow up at Cameron House, in a loving community. We have an amazing opportunity to receive matching funds of $105,000 through the Eustace-Kwan Family Foundation and Keira Chu, so please join me in supporting the amazing work that Cameron House does each day.
Note: If you donate by cash or check, please note on your payment “Phone-a-thon Cody’s team.” 100% of all check and cash gifts received go directly to CH.
