May 15th 1994 ... it was her 7th birthday. A young girl stands scared...in fear... and frightened of what was in front of her. Her mother's new husband had a bit too much to drink and come home angry... things got loud... things got thrown. Things kept getting worse. Her mother ran to the bedroom to call police... where this man met her to rip the cord from the wall refraining her from getting through to help. There this young girl stood... in front of the door way as this man continues.. one hit and choke and hold and shake after another... this young girl way witnessing her mother being beaten to death in front of her little innocent eyes. When at once courage and adrenaline rushed the little girl to her mother's rescue... giving this man a distraction...just in time... he looked up and in the little girls eyes... he stood from her mother. thank goodness, he's done.... she thought. With in seconds he turned on her like an angry bear charging he picked the little girl up.. his big hands by her neck and head as he turned her around the corner from the doorway he pushed her..at the top of the stairs.. her feeling as if she's just become part of a nightmare as she rolls down.... In this matter of time was just enough to allow her mother to roll over and plug the phone back in and dial 911 before this beast returned to finish her. Within a few minutes and few more beatings there was a knock to the door. The beast finally stops.. escapes out of a window and runs. This....... was only the beginning.... of the rest of their lives. The rest of their lives during the time he returned through the next time he'd gotten angry again through the permanent physical mental and Emotional struggles that haunt them for the rest of their lives. What they lived was not life and not all are Survivors... not all come out alive. Faith...support... affordable housing and resources and a lot of strength and courage and positive life style changes. We all need someone sometimes. May we continue coming to get her and growing together as a community in unity let us lift and rise. God bless and thank you all for your contribution to seeing and being the change we wish to see.. and if it's not a change you see... let it be. ;)
