BENEFITING: CHILDRENS HOSPITAL
EVENT DATE: Apr 22, 2015
The fundraiser has moved to Children's National Hospital Center's website:
Hi! My name is K Murari. I am eight years old.
Next spring I am going to a country called Spain! I will try to walk 300 kilometers from Oviedo to Santiago De Compostela. I will be raising money for kids like me but who need special care for cancer.
Our luggage will be backpacks that we will have to carry the whole 300 kilometers. Our backpacks will be 14 pounds each. We are going to start our training by walking three miles a day. When we can do six miles every day we are going to add the backpack and go up to ten. I am hoping to raise $5,000.
The reason I thought of doing this is because my Uncle Matt is doing it right now (August 2014). When I thought about doing it I thought that I could help others while I have fun. I have a friend that had cancer so that is how I thought that I could raise money for others. Bye now!
PS: Here is my friend, Ava's story:
Ava was like any normal 2 1/2 year old, an abundance of energy and giggles. In November 2011, Ava became very ill and had a fever for 4 days. Her doctors ran blood tests and the results were not normal. Ava was sent to a Hematologist and they performed a bone marrow aspiration on December 9, 2011.
That afternoon they confirmed her parents worst fear, that Ava had Cancer. She was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. They were devastated, heart broken and their faith and spirit was shattered. They could not understand how their only daughter at age 2 1/2 had Cancer. They started chemotherapy immediately on Ava, and thankfully on Day 8 of treatment she was in Remission.
Even though the cancer was no longer visible in her blood, Ava had to complete over 2 1/2 years of chemo drugs being placed in her little body so that all the cancer was killed and to make sure it never returns. Ava successfully completed her chemotherapy treatment on March 21, 2014, just before her 5th Birthday and is cancer free and in remission!
Childrens' Hospital was with the family and Ava every step of the way and we are all grateful for their care!
