PLEASE HELP US ENSURE THAT NO CHILD HAS TO GRIEVE ALONE
Every year Providence Hospice hosts a 'Grief Camp' for children and young adults just outside of Portland, OR. The purpose of the camp is to create a safe, healing environment where these kids can come together to not only deal with the loss of their loved one (often a parent or sibling), but also find comfort in the company in other young people who are going through similar experiences. Providence Hospice does an AMAZING job when it comes to creating an unforgettable weekend for these kids, that is not only healing, but also tons of fun! And, to keep the camp accessible to all families, they offer this weekend to campers FREE of charge.
While this is an amazing gift and truly memorable experience, unfortunately there are kids every year who aren't able to make it off the waiting list and have to miss out on a weekend that could have a huge impact on their lives. And the only reason they remain on the wait list is lack of funding. After going through a terrible loss they have to deal with the heartbreaking reality of being kept out of this healing weekend.
For the 2017 season 30 CHILDREN WILL BE TOLD THAT THEY CAN'T ATTEND CAMP. But together we can change that for next year!!
There is nothing we can do about the loss that they have suffered, but we can help make sure that no child is left to grieve alone!
Every $1,000 we raise will move another camper's name off the waiting list! Our goal is to make sure that everyone who wants to attend this camp will get their chance. But we can't do it without your support!
When dealing with the loss of a loved one, one of the most important things for children and teens to learn is that they are not alone in their feelings or experience. Camp Erin allows a grieving child or teen to be with others who have similar feelings, and to build friendships with this understanding. Children often need an avenue to express their grief and to honor the person who has died, and that is exactly what Camp Erin provides.
