Camp Blaze is staffed by professional firefighters, youth providers and others who volunteer their time to create this amazing biennial event.
VISION: To empower, inspire and support strong women leaders.
MISSION: To facilitate leadership camps and mentorship opportunities for young women in a fire service environment. To provide leadership and career development opportunities for women.
BLAZE EVOLUTION The first Fire Service Mini Camp was hosted by San Diego Fire and Life Safety in July of 1999. The team leaders worked together to form BLAZE, Firecamp for Young Women to provide an annual, free camp for young women to experience what a career in the fire service might be like. Following Camp 2003, the Board of Directors made a decision to offer a biennial camp and now offer Women & Fire (W&F) training events in the off years. W&F offers a day of hands-on drills and instruction for women in the fire service as well as a day of professional development related to the goals of Camp Blaze.
The skills and training offered at Camp Blaze are:
Fire behavior instruction
Using self-contained breathing apparatus
Live fire training
Using portable fire extinguishers
Hose handling Ladders, including aerial ladder climbing
Search and rescue
CPR & First aid
Blaze also provides: Lodging for seven nights T-shirts, shorts and sweatshirt for each camper, firefighting bunker gear for each camper (for use at camp), water bottle, meals and snacks, and laundry services
