Camp Communicate is an amazing and life changing experience for children who use technology to communicate because a disabling condition like Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Rett Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome or another disorder prevents them from using spoken language. Campers attend with their families and while campers and siblings do typical camp activities like boating, swimming, arts and crafts, music, drama and outdoor games parents attend training on how to promote communication skills the rest of the year.
Campers leave with improved communication skills, siblings leave with new friends who understand their lives and parents leave with an increased ability to be their child's best teacher. Volunteer staff leave with a renewed sense of purpose. Everyone takes something positive away from Camp Communicate at the Pine Tree Camp in Maine!
This summer, 2015, Camp Communicate will expand from a three day camp to a five day camp. This drives the cost of camp up to $1500 for one camper and one parent. Camp Communicate accepts a limited number of out-of-state campers and this fundraiser is to help three or more families from Massachusetts get to go to camp.
