Thank you for joining us in what is surely one of the most exciting times in Homegrown Lacrosse’s 14-year history. We are potentially a few short weeks away from securing the last large parcel of virtually undeveloped land on Madeline Island—a sacred place in Ashland County, Wisconsin, which we envision to be the future home of both Homegrown Lacrosse Camps and Ojibwe national teams.
Our goal is to create a first of its kind, sports-based environmental learning center that we believe will be a catalyst for individual and community growth. After two years of careful strategic planning and development efforts, we were recently approved for financing with the tremendous support of Anchor Bank and the Non Profit Assistance Fund. We are closer than ever to realizing our dream.
Of Madeline Island, esteemed Ojibwe environmental activist Winona Laduke wrote: “This is the place where the Creator and prophets instructed our people to move. In the 2lst century, it is a place where the complexity of restoring a multicultural society in a sacred land is being revealed. The question is, ‘How do we do so with grace?’ ”
Your involvement and support of this project can help answer that question. Until now, Homegrown has operated almost entirely as a self-sustaining entrepreneurial non-profit. By reinvesting program revenue to fund outreach and initiatives, we have shared the game with well over 25,000 young people, and have been able to provide over $100,000 in scholarships annually.
Today, we humbly ask you to help us bring this vision to life by donating and/or becoming a member of our fundraising team. With the help of at least 200 team members, our goal is to raise at least $275,000 within one month’s time—$200k to cover the down payment and $75k to maintain our scholarship fund—and close on the property in late September. Both goals are part of a larger $2,000,000 fundraising goal described in our campaign video.
We simply cannot do this without you. Donating is easy. Just hit the donate button above or click here. All gifts are tax-deductible and more importantly, have the power to change the lives of young people across the region. Donor names will also be recognized in perpetuity within the main lodge of the camp, unless you wish to give anonymously.
If you wish to donate via check, please mail to:
3125 Hennepin Ave S.
Minneapolis, MN 55405.
*We encourage donations greater than $1,000 be sent via check to avoid processing and platform fees.
Joining the fundraising team is easy and incredibly impactful, as well. It’s what the Crowdrise platform was built for. You can join by clicking the “fundraise for this campaign” button above. As a team member you will be provided with your own fundraiser page where you are encouraged to share the vision of the camp and/or how Homegrown has impacted your life with your friends, family, and other potential donors/team members.
Thank you all for your time and incredible support.
