Thank you for clicking the link, that is always the hardest part!
For those of you who don't know, ever since Amanda and I ran the New York Marathon last year I have been franticly applying to various charities for a spot in the 2015 Boston Marathon. After applying to 5 different charities I started to think this was not my year. But then there was Camp Shriver. An organziation I had applied to but was not fortunate enought to gain a spot the first time had asked me to join their team! Camp Shriver, the first charity application I submitted months prior had a spot for me and I accepted!
And this is where you all come in, I am trying to raise $7,500 for Camp Shriver. I know it is after the holiday season but this is a great cause and the people I am training with are amazing! Camp Shriver is an organization out of UMass Boston that focuses on developing social and motor skills through sports for children with disabilities. They are all so dedicated to helping children and making a difference. They go to work everyday to make help children develop critical social and motor skills through sports.
Running the Boston Marathon has always been a goal/dream of mine and now you all can play a part in making it a reality! Please helpe me complete this dream of mine while also making a lasting impact on the lives of so many young children around Boston!
Below is some more information from Camp Shriver, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! Thanks again for clicking and can't wait to see you all along the course on April 20!
Camp Shriver - where children can learn and play... as equals!
We are so lucky to live in a nation where children with disabilities are included in our schools, in our communities and in our lives. But Camp Shriver takes this one step further. Inclusion is good... equal is better!
That's why for the past eight years, Camp Shriver at the University of Massachusetts Boston has welcomed over 800 children, half with and half without intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 8-12, from low income families in the Boston area to a free inclusive summer sports camp.
Camp Shriver serves an equal number of children with and without disabilities so that all children can play and learn—as equals.
All the funds raised by our fantastic Team Camp Shriver members will directly support sending over 100 children to camp this summer. With your support, and the support of these amazing indviduals running 26.2 miles for children with disabilities, we will makle sure that all children have an opportunity to play and learn together this summer!
Camp Shriver’s mission is to bring children with and without disabilities together to provide opportunities for social and motor development, while promoting positive peer relationships among campers.
