BENEFITING: CAMP TONKAWA OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER
As you can see from the pictures below, we're ready for a new barn. Our 100-year-old barn is virtually falling apart and cannot even keep the hay dry, so we are rebuilding it! The new barn will be a multi-use building for the horses and the people who come to Camp Tonkawa Outdoor Learning Center. The horses will benefit by having their feed safely stored and will have a stall to use in case of injury or pregnancy. The people will benefit by having the horse tack properly stored as well as a weather-protected area to hold classes and special events.
In keeping with the goals of Camp Tonkawa, this barn will be constructed with the aim of going green: sustainable technologies we would like to use include solar panels, skylights, rainwater collection, wind turbines, and a metal roof. This is going to be a huge project and will be a great opportunity for folks to come together. We hope to have lots of volunteers to put up the new one, and they will also be able to pick up skills that may help them implement their own green goals at home.
