EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
Hello, I have decided to run a marathon. Is it going to be difficult? Yes. Do I have some hidden aptitude for running that I keep secret? No. Am I going to win the race? Oh God no.
Why then would I choose to participate in a running race? An event where I will no doubt fail in achieving the primary objective (i.e. winning)?
I am mostly running the marathon as a challenge to myself, in spite of the fact that I might lose to a couple of Kenyan fellows (and about 3000 other non-Kenyans).
I also saw it as an opportunity to raise funds for the CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association). As a nationwide, voluntary organization, the Canadian Mental Health Association promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness. The CMHA accomplishes this mission through advocacy, education, research and service.
It is easy to forget that many of the people we see living on the streets are actually suffering through some form of mental illness. They often lack the strong social network of family and friends that are crucial to anyone who suffers from mental illness. Even those who have the support system at home are still neglected by an underfunded mental health system. Our current system simply can’t provide many of the essential resources necessary to helping people manage their illness.
Please help me to achieve my goal of raising $500.00 for the CMHA. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.
Thank You for your time.
