I'm back to 1/2 Distance! One more 1/2 to go!!
March 05, 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
What? On May 7, 2017 I, Graham Walker, am going to try to run a marathon for charity. I’m asking for you to make it about more than just mileage.
- My goal is to raise $500 for the Canadian Mental Health Association.
- By running for charity I saved $50. I am going to double that and donate $100 myself.
- On top of that I am going to blow out my knees if thats what it takes to finish this race.
Why Mental Health? This May will be the 5 year anniversary of the death of my friends Hayley, Darren and Cayden Wourms whose lives were abruptly ended by Darren’s mental illness. That’s not ok. What’s worse is that these things continue to keep happening and that makes me very upset. Pissed off enough to run 42.2 km about it.
Why Me? You may already know this, but I am pretty stubborn. I’ve been called a lot of great things in my life and being "strongheaded" is a nice way of discribing this quality. My aptitude for stubborness always exceeds even my own expectations. However, I’ve never ran further than 21 kms and both times I’ve tried it I have been on my face exhausted. Recently I have started running with some colleagues from work and they have motivated me to push my limits.
Why You? I'm hopeful that you either care enough about the cause or care enough about supporting me to put $10 or $25 towards it. It's not going to change the world all at once but I hope that it will support change for someone, somewhere. I would really love to have you stand behind me as I turn past the 30km marker into the final quarter of this run and grind to the finish line.
