Warmest Thank You
February 22, 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
This year, I decided to set the intention to make choices that would be based on love and not fear. I'm excited and nervous (a little.... or a lot haha) to share that I've registered as a Charity Runner for the BMO Half-Marathon.
I was torn on which organization to fundraiser for. Initially, I thought of the organization which helped my dad for his treatments during his battle with Pancreatic Cancer. It's been five years (one month and a few days shy) since he passed away and I wanted to do something to honour him.
I really thought about it and asked myself:
What have I struggled with the last five years?
What has impacted me the most?
What can I do to make a difference?
Then it came to me: #mymentalhealth.
It's been a journey the last few years dealing with anxiety and depression. It's not something I've openly admitted to many people because I was afraid of how I would look or be accepted. This year, I decided to lead life with love, so I stand before you vulnerably when I share that there were days that I couldn't get up and get myself out of bed (it still happens sometimes). There are still days when I feel physically and emotionally paralyzed by my thoughts and emotions.
As I became more aware and more importantly, accepting of my own struggles, I began to heal. When I started to see other people were going through similar things, that we all crave for connection and feeling of belongingness, the more I began to cultivate compassion, courage, and vulnerability. With the risk of sounding like a cliché, the more I listened and learned to love who I was/am, the more I was able to give love and truly connect with other people and their stories.
So, In honour of my dad and of those who have experienced loss, grief, strife in any way or have been impacted by or struggled with their mental health, this is for all of us.
Who will the funds go to?: The Canadian Mental Health Association!
CMHA is a wonderful organization with wellness programs and services for youth, campuses, workplaces, and suicide-intervention. Please see their website below for more info:
