Our run is dedicated to the memory of Warren Kirkland.

EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
Thanks for stopping by! We are running the BMO Vancouver Marathon on a relay team called Warren's Warriors, to raise money on behalf of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Last year, one of the greatest people we know committed suicide. It was a horrible shock, perhaps even more so because none of us closest to him knew he had been having any kind of suicidal ideation.
Warren was one of the greatest people we have ever known. He was funny, kind, brave and so unbelievably smart. One of the many things Warren's family and best friends talked about after he passed away, was how much we wanted to find a way to do something in his memory. Health and fitness was a huge part of Warren's life - he was an accomplished ironman, triathlete and marathon runner, so we all felt this marathon was perfect. Not only are we able to honour his memory, but we are able to fundraise for an important organization and talk about mental health and suicide.
Our team consists of one of Warren's sisters and some of his best friends. All contributions will go towards our overall team donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association Vancouver and Fraser Valley Branch. This branch of the CMHA is dedicated to providing services to people who are struggling with their mental health, connecting at risk individuals with resources and services. They encourage everyone to lead more mentally healthy lives and work within the community to remove the stigmas associated with mental health. This branch also provides training sessions specifically targeted at suicide reduction, training individuals within the community to notice when someone may be showing suicidal tendencies.
These past few months have shown us how important mental health awareness is and how deeply it impacts those around you and that you may not even be aware of it. We have learned it is far more wide spread throughout our community than many often think. We chose this organization in the hopes that we could support and/or connect even one person with resources they need, or train one person to identify a suicidal loved one in their time of need. If our contribution can make a difference in even one life, we will have done some good in the tragedy of losing our friend and brother. Any support is greatly appreciated!!!!
Thank you so much!!
