You have cancer. Those three words can change everything that you know and feel in this world. It can take less than three seconds to say, but the impact can be immeasurable.
I know friends and family who have heard those three words. However, there is one word that can change the impact of those other three...hope. It is defined as the feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. And for the people who have heard those three words, there is another they hope to hear...cure.
The Cancer Research Institute (CRI) is the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to advancing the science of cancer immunology with the goal of developing new ways to harness the immune system to prevent, treat, and—one day—cure cancer. Because of the pioneering research the CRI has funded for 60 years, cancer immunotherapy today is no longer a dream held by a determined few. New treatments based on decades of discovery are extending and saving the lives of some patients with some types of cancer.
To help the CRI, I am raising funds and running in the 2016 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on Sunday, March 20. This year, I am running for my Aunt Barbara, who was diagnosed over the holidays and is currently getting treatment for cancer. Please consider making a donation to my page. I have a fund raising goal of $1,000. Every bit helps to add hope for a cure.
