Canton Tigers run the MS River Marathon
Organized by: Jim McCue
EVENT DATE Feb 13, 2016
The Canton Tigers Cross Country team is attempting to run the half marathon distance, or 13.1 miles, for the very first time at the 2016 Mississippi River Marathon in Greenville, MS. Canton High School is located in a low-income, rural city in Mississippi, just north of the capital in Jackson. Over the past two years, the team has grown to become a supportive, structured environment for students to build positive relationships with their peers, develop goal-seeking behavior, and realize the benefits of determination and grit. The team was able to connect with local running shop, Fleet Feet Sports in Jackson, for generous sneaker donations, and recruit successful track coaches, like Andy Till from Millsaps College and Houston Franks from Mississippi State University, to speak about becoming collegiate athletes, balancing training and studying, and encouraging a life-long pursuit of health. Perhaps the greatest feat of all, they were even invited to participate in the 2015 Crescent City Classic 10k in downtown New Orleans! Please help us reach our goal of building on prior successes by supporting our journey through the 13.1 miles from Arkansas, over the Greenville Bridge, and into down Greenvile. Any donation will help!
