BENEFITING: Canuck Place Children's Hospice
ORGANIZER: Canuck Place Children's Hospice
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
This run is dedicated to my brother in law, Kristian Domingo, who passed away on August 16, 2016 at Canuck Place Children's Hospice at the young age of 20 years old. Last year Kristian ran the 10k Sun Run while he was undergoing cancer treatment. His strength and determination amazed all of us. Though it was hard for him, he did not give up. He pushed himself till he crossed the finished line. We were so proud of him. One of the many things I loved about Kristian is that he always wanted to try new things and he was never afraid to do so. He loved a challenge and as much as I dislike running, this will be one of the hardest challenges I've ever had to do.
The Domingo Family has created The Kristian Domingo Foundation as a way to help other children and young adults facing adversity, and as a way to perpetuate his memory. Unfortunately, the Foundation is not ready yet to receive donations. So please support my charity of choice as they have done so much for the Domingo Family, especially during the last two weeks of Kristian's life.
On January, we had the pleasure to attend a ceremony hosted by Canuck Place Children's Hospice to honor the children who have passed away in 2016. It was a painful experience to see how many kids passed away. To me, no family should undergo losing a child. What Canuck Place Children's Hospice has done is provide a place where families can come together to mourn for their child and to receive counselling, support from not just counsellors but from other families who have gone through a similar experience. They have provided a sense of community to support families who don't have much support. If you feel it in your heart, please donate to Canuck Place Children's Hospice, what they did for the Domingo Family and do for other families is amazing.

At Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, we make a difference for BC’s children and families. We provide critical care for children living with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them in our two provincial locations and in their home communities, empowering them to celebrate each moment, build precious memories and manage the pain and symptoms of their illnesses and conditions. We also support the families who love them and provide the tools and resources they need to live in the moment together.
As British Columbia’s pediatric palliative care provider, we play an important role in the health care system. Not only do we provide end-of-life care, but we work with families throughout the entire span of a child’s life from the point of diagnosis through the progression of the illness. An expert team provides bereavement counselling, music, art, and play therapy, and recreation therapy activities, all in addition to much needed family and child respite, and 24-hour clinical care. Canuck Place is an integral partner in the journey of these children and families.
Events like the BMO Vancouver Marathon help Canuck Place Children’s Hospice take care of the details – both big and small. Your donation to Canuck Place ensures that high-quality pediatric palliative care continues to be delivered to the BC community – and so kids and their families can create moments that will be cherished for years to come.
