BENEFITING: CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Feb 13, 2016
Open to players of all levels, the Central Park Classic focuses on fun, participation and camaraderie. This tournament is intended to further the natural ties between Canadians and New Yorkers. Each year, we bring together teams from Canada and the US for a special weekend and a truly unique hockey experience – the opportunity to play outdoors in one of the most beautiful city parks in the world. Most importantly, the main objective is to support the follow non-profit youth programs:
Ice Hockey in Harlem (IHIH) - Established in 1987, this innovative program uses on-ice and classroom sessions to improve the social and academic well-being of children from the Harlem community. IHIH student athletes learn the fundamentals of the game, engage in an active lifestyle, and broaden their life experiences.
The Wheelchair Sports Federation (WSF) Sled Rangers is a youth ice hockey team for physically disabled kids. Sled hockey allows those with physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy an adaptive version of traditional ice hockey, with similar concepts and rules. Sled hockey players sit on a device known as a sled and employ two shortened hockey sticks with a pick (similar to the tip of a figure skate) on one end, which enables them to propel themselves across the ice. Checking and high-speed slap shots are common features of the sport.
We hope to see you there!
