Cape Cod Recovery Home Scholarship Fund
Organized by: Nate Astronaut
There was a period in my life where I wasn't sure if I would make it to 27. When I was ready for help people rallied to provide the support I desperately needed. On January 3rd I celebrate my 27th birthday. I cannot express the gratitude I have in my heart with words. Giving back to the people who helped me is the only gift I want.
The proceeds of this fundraiser will help sponsor people in recovery homes on Cape Cod. People who are finding a new way to live and struggling to make ends meet. A week's worth of rent is usually around $160 and the support they offer is invaluable. I owe my life to one of these homes and the people who run them are some of most compassionate and hard working I have ever met in my life.
- 50% of your donation will help someone in Advanced Sober Living in Hyannis, a structured recovery home for men.
- 50% of your donation will help someone in Powers Place in Falmouth, a recovery home for women and mothers.
*money raised will be given to the recovery homes, not individuals.
We do recover,
Some people may feel uncomfortable donating money to someone they do not know. Let me tell you a little about myself. Since finding recovery I have been able to be apart of many amazing things in my community. My friend Sam Tarplin and I produced the documentary What Happened Here: The Untold Story of Addiction on Cape Cod. I was an advisor on HBO's documentary Heroin: Cape Cod, USA. I currently am the chairperson of the Recovering Youth Coalition, serve on the Barnstable Regional Substance Abuse Council, and work at the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.
