BENEFITING: March of Dimes Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 10, 2016
We are honored to be serving as the 2016 Ambassador Family for the 8th Annual March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction in Cape Girardeau. We appreciate your support in helping us raise funds for the March of Dimes. Our journey has been a long one, but we continue to feel incredibly grateful and inspired everyday by our son, Finn. Here is our story...
Our son, Finn, was born at 26 weeks, weighing 1 lb 12 ounces. 30 minutes after I delivered our son, Finn was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon in St Louis, with his dad following. Finn spent 91 days in the NICU at Cardinal Glennon and at Southeast Health here in Cape Girardeau.
The day we took him home was the happiest day of our lives, and watching him grow, learn and puzzle out the world around him has been our greatest joy. The mundane, middle of the night diaper changes are transformed into a great privilege, because we know a time when we couldn’t do that for him. Finn’s premature birth, the staggering list of what could happen to him, his fight to live has impacted us deeply. We strive to never take being Finn’s parents for granted, because we saw, every day in the NICU, what a gift that is.
We benefitted from countless studies and medical advances in our time in the NICU; from the steroids I started receiving at 25 weeks and 7 days pregnant to the attractant he received immediately at birth and to everything it took to keep him alive until he could eat and breathe on his own, and we are indebeted to groups like the March of Dimes for funding the research Finn benefited from so much.
