4 years ago, my daughter Madisyn was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes while we were on vacation in Europe. This diagnosis was one that throttled our family and “blessed” Madi with a manageable lifetime disease that requires multiple blood glucose checks and insulin injections every day for the balance of her life. Type One Diabetes is a not a death sentence, but rather a disease that requires constant management and attention to exercise, diet, lifestyle, and medication. The highs and lows of blood sugar for those who no longer produce insulin through their pancreas can be challenging at best and deadly at their worst.
JDRF (The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Their goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until they achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, policy influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D. JDRF works tirelessly to rid the world of this disease. I have chosen to raise funds for this organization to make sure that, in Madi’s lifetime, Type One Diabetes will become a disease of the past. JDRF has made significant advances over the years and with your support, and their continued efforts, we can make sure that future generations look back on T1D like we look back on polio and smallpox!
