CAPITOL CRISIS - Rebellion or Resolve - The Movie
Organized by: Anonymous Fundraiser
EVENT DATE Jul 15, 2016
20 Years ago a political event, unprecedented in history, erupted in the Arkansas State Capitol, and our cameras were there filming it. This is the movie.
Three years before this event, on January 20, 1993, Governor Bill Clinton became the 42nd President of the United States and Lieutenant Governor Jim Guy Tucker was sworn in as Governor of Arkansas.
On May 28, 1996, Jim Guy Tucker was convicted by a federal jury in a conspiracy with Clinton associates to defraud a federally insured savings & loan and investment firm.
Governor Tucker announced he would resign on or before, July 15, 1996.
At 1:55 PM on July 15, our cameras were rolling, Lt Governor Mike Huckabee received a phone call from Governor Jim Guy Tucker informing him that within the past ten minutes he changed his mind and decided not to resign.
After the 1:55 PM phone call, Governor Tucker delivered a letter to the General Assembly related to the discovery of a questionable jury member’s conflict of interest. It read, “this discovery goes to the heart of any citizen’s right to receive a fair trial from an impartial jury.”
The Arkansas State Capitol was filled with hundreds of people, including state representatives, house and senate members and the national media awaiting the swearing of a new governor. Chaos set in for the next four hours as an entire state and national media watched an unanticipated constitutional crisis erupt.
With footage never seen before, this is the movie in the making twenty years later… for the historical event “Capitol Crisis”.
