AinsleysAngels.org is thrilled to help ensure Captain Elliot can soon roll with the wind in comfort in a customized race chair to fit his needs!
With your generosity, we are certain this can happen soon! As the father of two very special girls that race together with me, I know that the positive energy surrounding the start line, the togetherness of every member preparing to "roll with the wind", the fearlessness of the athletes, the normalcy of the family, and the love we all have for each other is a therapy like no other.
A message from Elliot’s Mom:
August 22, 2014 will mark the 15th anniversary of an acquired traumatic brain injury to Elliot Meeks as a result of a motor vehicle accident in North Texas for which the responsible party was never located. After two years in ICU in Lubbock and intensive rehab in San Antonio, he was sent home to Corpus Christi because his insurance company deemed he was no longer worthy of their rehabilitation dollars. Corpus Christi does not provide many opportunities for non-ambulatory citizens like Elliot. It is so easy to become a recluse from a society that does not tolerate his particular needs or behaviors. Not the case on June 14, 2014! With the introduction and inclusion of myTEAM Triumph: Ainsley’s Angels of South Texas, Elliot became the “Captain” of a specialized running chair with a volunteer ambulatory “Angel” and participated in the “2nd Annual Stache Dash”, a local 5K run in downtown Corpus Christi. He became part of a team of 12 other special needs Captains and their Angels and, for a day, a part of his community. His excitement was contagious and caused many better-abled people to reflect on abilities they take for granted. Elliot will continue to have more happy days in the future because of Ainsley, a little girl with a serious illness and a loving family. THANK YOU!
