BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
AinsleysAngels.org is thrilled to help ensure Lizzie can soon roll with the wind in comfort in her own Freedom Push Chair!
A message from Lizzie’s Mom:
Lizzie is a beautiful, energetic, five year-old girl. Her legs and her mind work faster than her mouth and fine motor skills. While she is not her disability, she is limited by the way her autism affects her. She eats a special diet of gluten free, casein free, soy free foods. She has an older brother that plays with her, but both feel the need to have interests outside of the other. Lizzie loves to be on the go. While she does have the ability to walk and run, she cannot do so in a manner that is safe for her. She started as a captain with Ainsley's Angels of Eastern Carolina at the Marine Corps Half Marathon on September 21, 2013 at the urging of her former preschool teacher, Tara Wiley. Lizzie loved it! As her team crossed the finish line I saw a look of sheer pleasure on her face. It inspired me to run with her. She has been in two other races where Tara Wiley invited me to join them run. The experience has been magical. Lizzie and I finally have something to share in. Most races here are on base, which I do not have access to. It would mean a lot to Lizzie and I to be able to run whenever the mood hit us, especially over the summer when neither of us have school to attend. Having her own chair would help give the independence she needs to live life rather than wait on it to happen. THANK YOU!
So, with your generosity, we are certain this can happen soon! As the father of two very special girls that race together with me, I know that the positive energy surrounding the start line, the togetherness of every member preparing to "roll with the wind", the fearlessness of the athletes, the normalcy of the family, and the love we all have for each other is a therapy like no other.
