BENEFITING: The Shepherd's Table, Inc.
I started this fundraising campaign to help inspire greater meaning in my artwork and as a way for me to help give back to communities in need. I want to start locally by supporting Shepherd's Table in my current city of Silver Spring, MD. Shepherd's Table provides a variety of services and goods for people in the area who are homeless. Over 1,000 people were living on the streets in the county last year, a 23% increase since 2014--even when homelessness in the District is on the decline! Their center is right by my metro station so I'm reminded daily of all the good they do and all the work that still needs to be done.
For each donation of any amount you make, I will send you a pack of unique greeting cards, printed from my colorful new series of paintings ($12 value). Each painting is inspired by the colors, memories, and times I've experienced in my favorite cities in the US. If you're interested in my paintings and process, visit my website www.eveningpainting.com. And if you're interested in purchasing an original painting that you see, let me know! A percentage of that price will also go to the charity.
About Shepherd's Table:
Our mission is to provide help to people who are homeless or in need by providing basic services, including meals, social services, medical support, clothing, and other assistance in an effective and compassionate manner. Since 1983, Shepherd’s Table has been a necessary and effective resource welcoming and serving those in need within Silver Spring. We build upon our successful strategy to make the community a better place for our clientele and others to live, work, and operate a business.
Charity Navigator rates it 3/4 stars. Almost 80% of revenue goes towards programming and 11% towards administrative costs. Right now it looks like they are in the red and our support is very much needed! If you're skeptical about this fundraising website, trust me, I was too! It was actually started by Edward Norton (wtf!), and seems to be doing well with a lot of positive reviews. When choosing a fundraising platform, I considered ease of use, security, and the costs (the amount of $$$ that wouldn't go to the charity!).
1. This one was a breeze to set up and I made the first donation, which was extremely easy. They accept the major credit cards--ask me if you need some help!
2. All transactions are secure and b/c this page sends donations directly to Shepherd's Table, you don't have to trust me to take the money over there myself and not use a few bucks to buy a Starbucks along the way.
3.As for costs, Crowdrise will charge a processing fee and a platform fee of 4.5%. I was a little disapointed that it was difficult to find out this information on their webiste, but it's here: . However, I will be donating all of these costs back to Shepherd's Table, so rest assured that 100% of your donations will go to the charity! If you prefer to send your donation directly to me, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can work it out!
