Care Kits for the Homeless
Organized by: Robert Wascher
The number of homeless people in the USA far exceeds the available resources to feed, clothe, and shelter those with nothing but the clothes on their back. Many of the homeless, including children, are reduced to "subsistence by begging" in order to survive. Care Kits for the Homeless" seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of the homeless by distributing free comfort and care kits containing snacks, restaurant gift cards, personal hygiene items, and comfort items to the homeless. The items currently contained in each care kit cost $30 (bulk retail price), and are assembled, packaged and distributed by volunteers. This community project, started by a cancer surgeon and his family, is currently based in Phoenix, AZ, with plans to expand into other communities as the project's donor and volunteer bases grow.
