A Loving Home
April 29, 2016
Hi everyone! I found Sweet Lu this past Saturday in the middle of Main St. in Belleville, IL. I have been trying to find her owners, but she does not have a microchip and I am not having much luck. Many of the shelters around here are at max capacity and I did not want to turn her over to animal control. She is so sweet and gentle too, I just couldn't fathom the thought of what could happen to her! We have welcomed her into our home while we search for her owners and are happy to take care of her in the mean time. She walks around for a bit, finds a cozy spot then settles in for a nap. We noticed she was stumbling a bit and bumping into things. After some research and at-home tests, we were sure that Sweet Lu was also blind. We also noticed that she was not eating or drinking water.
I took her to the vet this morning to be scanned for a microchip and to talk to the vet about her blindness and why she may not be eating. While there, an anonymous donor in the waiting room overheard me telling the vet tech her story and offered to pay for a check-up exam, which was so kind! Sweet Lu was very dehydrated, so the vet gave her fluids. They mentioned that the blindness may be temporary and they sent us home with some antibiotics and a few syringes to try to get some water into her. They also highly recommend that we do blood work to learn what is really going on, which is where you come in. What is raised will go towards paying for these meds, her blood work, and specialty foods she may need.
These expenses are very unexpected as we are in the middle of planning a wedding and our 3 year-old-dog, 180lb, Newfoundland is about to have the second of two ACL specialty surgeries. We weren't looking for a cat, but Sweet Lu found us and we cannot just turn her away in her time of need. Any little bit you can help with is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your kindness.
