Sammy, son of an orphan single mother, was born with a treatable heart illness that required basic surgery. Due to poverty, he didn’t receive the medical treatment doctors recommended. For Sammy to survive, his mother kept him from any physical activity. Dr. Vincent Muli Wa Kituku, founder and director of Caring Hearts and Hands of Hope met him when he joined high school and in need of sponsorship. Dr. Kituku says, “My heart broke when I saw him astonishingly weak and looked like there was no flesh between the skin and bones. It took Sammy two hours to walk 200 yards, stopping after a few steps to breathe.” Vincent consulted a heart specialist who said Sammy needed advanced medical treatment, available in India due to his age. He also had to be accompanied by a medical expert from Kenya. Sammy was operated on in March and his recovery is nothing short of a miracle! The medical bills, that have accumulated to $15,000 so far, for examinations, surgeon fees, airline fares and room and board for both Sammy and his caretaker. Sammy will also need to be with the medical expert for another month when he returns to Kenya. Over the past months Vincent has raised a total of $9,000. Now we ask you to help us achieve our goal, to help Sammy acquire $7,500 to pay for his expenses, which will allow him to further his education and impact the world.
