Caring for the Children of Cambodia
Organized by: Heidi Tranel
EVENT DATE Dec 28, 2015
In January 2016 I will be participating in a service trip by traveling with my fellow classmates, faculty, and staff from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin to Cambodia. The purpose of this trip is to perform screenings and head-to-toe assessments on Cambodia's pediatric population as well as provide education to the children and family members regarding health and wellness. While there, we will be traveling to different villages to provide teaching, health care, medicines, and supplies to educate on and treat various types of medical issues. As a nursing student, this is an incredible opportunity for me to not only practice and learn skills regarding caring for the pediatric population, but it also will also allow me to immerse myself in an entirely different culture and environment to enhance my knowledge on caring for diverse individuals. During our stay in Cambodia, we are partnering with the non-profit agency Family Care Cornerstone Project who will assist us in being able to provide the care and education to each of the children and their families that we meet along the way. The funds that I am determined to raise for this trip will go towards travel and lodging expenses, but they are also dedicated to creating hygiene/health packs to hand out to each child as well as medical supplies and medicines. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will be dedicated to caring for theses children. I am very fortunate that I am able to express my passion for helping others by being able to travel with my school to provide health care and help the children and families of Cambodia. This is an incredible, once in a lifetime experience and every penny can make a difference.
