As you may know, I am a mentor to a New York City high school student through iMentor. iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
I’ve had the amazing opportunity to be matched with Yosely, and this is our third year together. She’s now a junior at Manhattan Bridges High School and dreams of becoming a doctor. We meet once a month and email weekly on topics such as setting SMART goals and understanding the college landscape. Getting to know her and guiding her through the ups and downs of high school life has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
It costs $1,000 per year to support each mentee/mentor pair and ensure they have access iMentor’s proven college success curriculum and resources. Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
