In Memory of Yoki:

This year I am walking to bring awareness to special needs kitties like Yoki and to the humans who care for them.

When Yoki came to Tree House as a kitten, he was suffering from diabetes, glaucoma, eye and skin lesions, and intestinal cancer. Not too many humans are willing to take on those challenges, especially since he wasn’t expected to live more than two years. He was adopted at 8-weeks-old by one of the many amazing Tree House staff.

Yoki had many life-threatening health challenges in his life but with loving care from his humans, his two-year life expectancy turned into twelve and half.  Not only did he beat the odds, but he made the world a better place for all those that knew him. I only spent a short time with him before he was adopted, but every time I saw his beautiful, serene face posted on Facebook, my day became enormously brighter.

For me, Yoki is a reminder that every creature is put on our planet for a reason. Yoki’s reason was to bring love and serenity to a world in short supply.

Walk for Cats Like Athens Who Can't Walk for Themselves

Athens was found under a garbage bin, his gentle "meow" a cry for help. He was 2-3 months old and in dire condition, unable to walk. X-rays revealed that this gentle kitten had suffered a spinal injury at some point in his life which had gone untreated, leaving him unable to use his hind legs. Athens is now safe at Tree House. Sadly, the damage to his legs cannot be reversed with surgery however with daily physical and joint therapy, Athens has adapted very well. Seemingly unphased by his condition, he slides/runs down the hallway and zips around corners. We are hopeful for his continue improvement. Athens loves to cuddle and has an infectious gaze that melts the heart of everyone he meets. We will never know what happened to Athens, but we do know he would not have survived on his own. Everyday at Tree House, we rescue cats who have nowhere else to go, and who are often euthanized at traditional shelters.

Register today and "Walk for Athens". Plus, set up your fundraising page, and help us achieve our goal of raising $35,000 to continue our work to help cats like Athens.
